Wondrous (Nickolas Butler)
The children scanned the fields and forests for the three-legged deer. How had it become so? A birth defect? An injury? A wolf or coyote? How old was it? How much longer would its luck last? Every car-ride, a safari in search of that single deer. Every shadow, hint of movement, a possible predator stalking that deer. Where were its parents? Siblings? Where did it sleep? How *wondrous* the world. How unexpected, dangerous, beautiful... Deer and children.
