Rhythm (Kirsty Gunn)
The rhythm of a sentence, the rhythm of a story... Rhythm is the engine that powers the prose, that moves it onwards and outwards and brings it home. It is unity, harmony; the pulse and pull of imagined worlds; our reading, breathing, writing self at large across the page... All rhythm. Rhythm as the beginning and the end of fiction, its openings and closings, gaps and fill, the life spirit present in the particular and considered arrangement of words.
