Supreme Court rejects another attempt to block Texas' six-week abortion ban

Ariane de Vogue (CNN, 20/01/2022)

Over the furious dissent of three liberal justices, the Supreme Court on Thursday rejected another attempt by abortion providers to block Texas' six-week abortion ban.

Supreme Court rejects Trump’s blocking of Jan. 6 docs: 3 key takeaways from ruling

Kirsten Carlson (The Conversation, 20/01/2022)

The ruling has immediate – and potentially longer-term – consequences. Here are three key takeaways from the court’s decision.

The Supreme Court on Thursday denied the latest request to step in amid an ongoing legal challenge over Texas’ newly implemented law, which effectively bans abortion after six weeks of pregnancy, when many people don’t even know they’re pregnant.

John Kruzel (The Hill, 20/01/2022)

The Supreme Court on Thursday rebuffed abortion providers’ latest legal maneuver in their challenge to Texas’s 6-week ban, which has sharply reduced abortion access in the state since taking effect nearly five months ago.

The order, issued without comment, was unsigned but appeared to divide the court along ideological lines, with the court’s three liberal justices writing in dissent.

At issue is a procedural fight over which tier of the lower federal courts the case should return to after a divided Supreme Court ruled last month that abortion providers could contest the ban in federal court and list Texas state licensing officials as defendants.
