Theresa May promises to protect mosques after Finsbury Park attack

Theresa May has promised extra police resources to protect mosques in the run-up to Eid following an incident which saw a van plough into people near an Islamic centre in north London.
Speaking outside Downing Street following the attack, which police were treating as terrorism, the prime minister said more must be done to crack down on anti-Islam extremism, and praised London’s multicultural community.
Attacks such as that in Finsbury Park, and in recent months by jihadist attackers at Westminster and London Bridge, all challenged the UK’s fundamental freedoms in areas such as speech and worship, May said.

"This morning, our country woke to news of another terrorist attack on the streets of our capital city, the second this month and every bit as sickening as those which have come before.
"It was an attack that once again targeted the ordinary and the innocent going about their daily lives - this time British Muslims as they left a mosque having broken their fast and prayed together at this sacred time of year.
"Today we come together - as we have done before - to condemn this act and to state once again that hatred and evil of this kind will never succeed.

Jeremy Corbyn distraught as he visits scene of Finsbury Park terror attack in his own constituency

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was visibly distraught as he visited the scene of a terrorist attack in his own constituency today.
Mr Corbyn visited the scene of the attack on Seven Sisters Road in north London, where one man was killed and 10 injured in the early hours of Monday.
He was pictured with his hands over his mouth when confronted with the horrific aftermath of the attack.

Brave worshippers held terror suspect down before police arrived at Finsbury Park mosque

Witnesses of the terror attack outside a Finsbury Park mosque held down the suspect until police arrived to arrest him.
The suspect is not believed to have been harmed, and many have praised the heroic actions of those who restrained the man until emergency services were on the scene.
The imam of the mosque reportedly told worshippers not to hurt the suspect, but instead to "pin him down" so he could be arrested.
