The Trump administration is discontinuing a signature girls education initiative championed by former first lady Michelle Obama, according to officials.
The "Let Girls Learn" program, which she and President Barack Obama started in 2015 to facilitate educational opportunities for adolescent girls in developing countries, will cease operation immediately, according to an internal document obtained by CNN.
While aspects of the initiative's programming will continue, employees have been told to stop using the "Let Girls Learn" name and were told that, as a program unto itself, "Let Girls Learn" was ending.

"Excited by the potential of the Obama Pres. Center," the former first lady tweeted Wednesday. "Barack & I will continue to champion the issues close to our hearts, including girls ed."
The White House earlier this week denied a CNN report that it is ending "Let Girls Learn," the former first lady's girls education program.
"There have been no changes to the program," a White House spokeswoman told CNN on Monday evening.

Michelle Obama isn’t letting anything stop her from fulfilling her commitment to girls’ education.
Just days after the Trump administration denied reports about ending the former first lady’s 2015 global education initiative “Let Girls Learn,” despite the fact that future funding is in question, Michelle is emphasizing her and former President Barack Obama’s dedication to the issue with their planned Obama Presidential Center.
“Excited by the potential of the Obama Pres. Center,” she tweeted on Wednesday. “Barack [and] I will continue to champion the issues close to our hearts, including girls ed[ucation].”

The White House is batting down reports that the Trump administration had planned to scuttle one of Michelle Obama’s signature initiatives.
Hours after CNN reported on an internal Peace Corps email that announced a plan to stop supporting the former first lady’s “Let Girls Learn” program, a White House spokesman said there had been no changes to the initiative.
The cable network’s CNN Films division, which celebrated Obama’s work to improve educational opportunities for girls in developing countries in a documentary last year, reported that Sheila Crowley, acting director of the Peace Corps, sent an email to employees this week shutting down the education campaign.
