Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made history Sunday when he became the first sitting prime minister to march in the parade.
“It's a good first step but I hope that he doesn't just stop at pride, we're still dying,” said Francesco Caruso, who Toronto visited from Ottawa just for Pride.

A river of multi-coloured floats and marchers came to a halt on Yonge Street and stood in silence along with the masses of onlookers to remember the shooting's 49 victims, predominantly LGBTQ.
Trudeau said the Florida tragedy is a reminder that "we can't let hate go by.''

Gender-neutral ID cards

Canada is exploring the use of gender-neutral options on identity cards, Justin Trudeau told a television station on Sunday as he became the first Canadian prime minister to march in a gay pride parade.
Trudeau, who participated in the downtown Toronto parade along with other politicians, did not give details, saying only the government was exploring the “best way” and studying other jurisdictions.
“That’s part of the great arc of history sweeping towards justice,” he told CP24.

Black Lives Matter

Canada’s largest LGBTQ event agreed to major changes Sunday after the Black Lives Matter movement staged a sit-in during the annual parade.
Marchers sat down in the middle of the Pride Toronto parade route, halting the procession for about 30 minutes. It re-started when Pride Toronto’s director Mathieu Chantelois signed a document, agreeing to the demands from Black Lives Matter Toronto.
Black Lives Matter Toronto co-founder Pascale Diverlus said the changes are necessary to make Pride more comfortable for diverse communities.
“It was not just black folk who saw a need for our demands,” she said in an interview with The Huffington Post Canada.
