Climate activist Greta Thunberg and "Game of Thrones" actor Liam Cunningham join aid ship sailing to Gaza

Climate campaigner Greta Thunberg and 11 other activists set sail for the Gaza Strip on Sunday afternoon, aboard a ship carrying aid. The mission is aimed at "breaking Israel's siege" of the devastated territory, organizers said. "Game of Thrones" actor Liam Cunningham and Rima Hassan, a French member of the European Parliament who is of Palestinian descent, are also among the crew. Hassan has been barred from entering Israel due to her active opposition to the Israeli assault on Gaza.

Nonprofit ship sets sail for Gaza after drone attack setback

International nonprofit organisation Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) said one of its vessels left the Italian port of Catania on Sunday, heading for Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid, after a previous attempt failed due to a drone attack on a separate ship in the Mediterranean. The crew of volunteers, including climate activist Greta Thunberg and Irish actor Liam Cunningham, set sail on the Madleen, carrying barrels of what the group called "limited amounts, though symbolic", of relief supplies. Another vessel operated by the group, the Conscience, was hit by two drones just outside Maltese territorial waters in early May. FFC said Israel was to blame for the incident. Israel has not responded to requests for comment.

Greta Thunberg joins aid ship sailing to Gaza aimed at breaking Israel’s blockade

The climate campaigner Greta Thunberg and 11 other activists have set sail for Gaza on a ship aimed at “breaking Israel’s siege” of the devastated territory, organisers have said. The sailing boat Madleen – operated by the activist group Freedom Flotilla Coalition – departed from the port of Catania in Sicily, southern Italy, on Sunday. It would try to reach the shores of the Gaza Strip to bring in some aid and raise “international awareness” of the continuing humanitarian crisis, the activists said at a press conference on Sunday, before the vessel departed.

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, Irish actor Liam Cunningham, and European Member of Parliament Rima Hassan are set to join the sailing of a humanitarian aid ship to Gaza this weekend. The group, which also consists of several other high-profile activists, will board the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FCC) ship "Madleen" from Catania in Sicily on Sunday to deliver vital supplies "to break Israel's illegal siege, to stop their starvation of Palestinians... [and] their genocide in Gaza,"  according to the ativist group.
