Severe weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office for London, the South East, Home Counties and central parts of the country and 23 flood alerts were in place across the South West.Thursday saw hurricane-force winds, up to four inches’ of rain and 40ft waves at sea, hit the South West.
Power lines came down, a yachtsman was saved from the sea and a woman was trapped in her car as authorities battled to save households from rising water levels.
