We’ll slash cost of living vows George Osborne in pledge on living costs

The Chancellor hinted that rail fares could be slashed as he promised action to help with household bills and the cost of housing.
He said the economy had “turned a corner” and ridiculed Labour demands for a switch to a “Plan B” on the economy.
Britain is now experiencing the fastest growth since the 1990s, Mr Osborne said, rejecting criticism of his austerity programme by shadow chancellor Ed Balls.
He added: “Of course, there are important improvements we can make to the scale of energy and water bills, the cost of housing, the fees paid for everyday financial services, the expense of rail and road travel.”
