Still Needed: A Sheriff of Finance
Andrew Ross Sorkin
"Crises have cascaded from subprime mortgages to the financial sector to the wider economy over the last two years, but the world seems no closer to addressing the problems that caused it, Andrew Ross Sorkin writes in his latest column in The New York Times.
"A global regulator that might limit the risks banks take, or the way they take them, seems in hindsight as necessary as it is difficult to create. Instead, countries are each tackling the crisis as they see fit, promising a regulatory patchwork with gaps for global operators to slip through, Mr. Sorkin writes.
"At Davos, leaders from around the world will be face to face for a few days but can they brings their plans closer as well?"
