Spending review: state pension delay will cost taxpayer £8 billion
Rosa Prince
"In this week's Spending Review, George Osborne, the Chancellor, announced that the female pension age would increase from 60 to 65 by 2018, with that for both sexes reaching 66 in April 2020.
"However, before the general election, the Conservatives had drawn up plans which would have gone far further, with the retirement age increased to 66 for men in six years' time.
"The party had even been actively considering forcing women as well as men to work for longer by 2016."
