Mystery of copper thieves who only strike on Thursdays
Martin Evans
"Disguised as BT workmen, complete with uniforms and vans bearing the company logo, the thieves have targeted the village of Barrington eight times in the last year, often leaving the 900 locals with no telephone or broadband access.
"The spate of thefts come as world prices for metals, such as copper, continues to boom making underground cable hugely valuable.
"Thieves often dig up and slice the cables before attaching them to backs of vehicles and driving away, allowing them to quickly strip out vast lengths of the copper wire."
