MPs slam the royals over fatcat pay rises
Richard PalmerMPs on the Commons Public Accounts Committee grilled the Queen's finance chief, Keeper of the Privy Purse Sir Alan Reid, and his deputy Mike Stevens over the rises for two officials earning over £100,000 and one earning over £80,000 while those paid £21,000 and above were told there was no money for an increase.
"It just strikes me as being not a very good message for a public organisation to freeze the wages of its staff from a very low level - from £21,000 - and then to see the top management award themselves a rise," said Margaret Hodge, the committee chairman.
"It seems to me not a very good message at a time of constraints."
