State schools will test children using private school exams for the first time under plans to make them the "best in the world", the education secretary will say in a speech on Monday.Michael Gove will say that schools must set their standards "so high" that they are indistinguishable from the best fee-paying schools like Eton and Harrow.
He will say he wants to end the perception that state education is "bog standard" by emulating independent schools with tougher tests, longer school days, more extra-curricular activities and better discipline.
