"Four MPs and peers involved in the expenses scandal could face jail sentences of up to ten years after the police asked prosecutors to consider charges for fraud or false accounting.
"The Crown Prosecution Service must now decide whether to go ahead with the prosecutions after a five-month investigation by Scotland Yard's Economic and Specialist Crime Unit.
"The four have not been named by Scotland Yard. Keir Starmer, the Director of Public Prosecutions, is expected to decide whether to prosecute the politicians within a month."
