Derailed train left hanging over 15-metre ridge
Amy Fallon
"A train derailed and caught fire in Scotland last night, leaving its two carriages "precariously balanced" over a 15-metre embankment in a remote area.
"At least two people were airlifted to hospital after the train, carrying about 60 passengers and staff, reportedly shuddered to a halt as it approached Cruachan power station in Argyll and Bute.
"Emergency services were alerted to the accident by a passenger who reported the derailment just before 9pm.
"Nine passengers with minor injuries were taken to hospital, according to a Strathclyde fire and rescue service spokesman, who added: "There's quite a lot of walking wounded - bumps to necks and backs and things like that."
"He said the first carriage of the train had been derailed about 30 or 40ft above the road, but the road was not blocked."
