British more afraid of crime than most Europeans
"Proportionately more criminals in Britain are sentenced for violent and sexual offences than in most other European countries.
"The ONS Social Trends survey said by 2010, 28 per cent of people in the UK chose rime as one of the two most important issues facing the country. The average across the EU was 16 per cent.
"In 2008, more than a fifth of UK residents stated that they feared becoming a victim of violent crime, the report said."
