McDonald’s accused over 'systemic sexual harassment' of employees worldwide

An international coalition of labor unions has filed a complaint against McDonald’s, alleging systemic sexual harassment of its employees around the world.

The complaint, filed at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development’s offices in the Netherlands, lists numerous incidents of harassment, including attempted rape and indecent exposure in the United States, a promotion in exchange for sexual acts in Brazil, and a hidden cellphone camera installed in the women’s changing room in France.

“There’s a rotten culture from the top,” said Sue Longley, the general secretary for the International Union of Foodworkers, at a press conference in Rio de Janeiro, adding that the fast food giant has “failed dismally to take meaningful action about the problem”.

McDonald's slapped with sexual harassment complaint at OECD

An international group of labour unions said Monday (May 18) it has filed a complaint against McDonald's for "systemic sexual harassment" at the fast food chain's restaurants around the world.

The complaint, filed at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)'s offices in the Netherlands, was the first of its kind to target a multinational company, its authors said.

"McDonald's workers have sounded the alarm about sexual harassment and gender-based violence for years, but a company with a culture rotten from the top has failed to take meaningful action to address the problem," said Sue Longley, general secretary of the International Union of Foodworkers, in a statement.

'Systematic sexual harassment': International labour union files complaint against McDonald's

An international group of labour unions have filed a complaint against McDonald's alleging "systematic sexual harassment" is happening at stores worldwide.

The International Union of Foodworkers (IUF) filed the complaint with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development's (OECD) offices in the Netherlands on Monday.

They say they don't want money, but instead want McDonald's to come up with a comprehensive worldwide plan to combat sexual harassment, The Guardian reported.

‘It’s even worse in Australia’: International unions file complaint against McDonald's over systemic sexual harassment

The union representing some fast food workers in Australia is considering joining an international complaint against McDonald's alleging systemic sexual harassment at its franchises. 

The Australian Retail and Fast Food Workers Union has accused McDonald's of a serious culture of sexual harassment and abuse of female employees, many of them children. 

An international group of labour unions has lodged a complaint with the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in the Netherlands over what it says is systemic sexual harassment of McDonald's staff.
