Competitors are gathering in Toronto ahead of the Invictus Games that will officially kick off this weekend.
CP24’s Travis Dhanraj was on board a VIA train packed with Team Canada members travelling from Ottawa to Toronto on Thursday, where he reported that there was a sense of camaraderie as teammates chatted and played cards in their seats.
Many of the participants, wearing their red, white and black Invictus Games t-shirts, shared their excitement.

Starting with a big-production opening ceremony at the Air Canada Centre on Saturday and chugging along until the closing ceremonies on Sept. 30, the Games are about to stamp a significant presence on Toronto for the first time. Ontario is pleased to host the third and largest Invictus Games to date - giving our Team Canada competitors the support of the home crowd and the opportunity to compete in front of family and friends.
Eleanor McMahon, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, was at Union Station today to meet and greet Team Canada as they arrived for the Games.

“I enjoyed being in the CWAC and I enjoyed being a driver,” Vanwart said. “And I saw so many things that I would never have seen, if I hadn’t joined the Forces.”
But Thursday morning at the Sunnybrook Veterans Centre, there was one person she really wanted to see.
