Fifth Woman Accuses Senate Candidate Roy Moore of Sexual Misconduct
Jonathan Martin and Sheryl Gay Stolberg (The New York Times, 13/11/2017)
An Alabama woman accused Roy S. Moore on Monday of sexually assaulting her when she was 16, the fifth and most brutal charge leveled against the Republican Senate candidate. Senate Republicans are now openly discussing not seating him or expelling him if he wins the Dec. 12 special election.
The new accuser, Beverly Young Nelson, told a packed news conference in New York that Mr. Moore attacked her when she was a teenager and he was a prosecutor in Etowah County, Ala. Ms. Nelson was represented at the news conference by Gloria Allred, a lawyer who has championed victims of sexual harassment.
“I tried fighting him off, while yelling at him to stop, but instead of stopping, he began squeezing my neck, attempting to force my head onto his crotch,” Ms. Nelson said, growing emotional as she described the assault, which she said happened one night after her shift ended at a local restaurant, where she was a waitress.

Leigh Corfman says she was 14 years old when an older man approached her outside a courtroom in Etowah County, Ala. She was sitting on a wooden bench with her mother, they both recall, when the man introduced himself as Roy Moore.
It was early 1979 and Moore — now the Republican nominee in Alabama for a U.S. Senate seat — was a 32-year-old assistant district attorney. He struck up a conversation, Corfman and her mother say, and offered to watch the girl while her mother went inside for a child custody hearing.
“He said, ‘Oh, you don’t want her to go in there and hear all that. I’ll stay out here with her,’ ” says Corfman’s mother, Nancy Wells, 71. “I thought, how nice for him to want to take care of my little girl.”

Condemning Moore

Senate Republicans look for exit strategy in Roy Moore saga
Ashley Killough, Ted Barrett and Manu Raju (CNN, 14/11/2017)
Republicans across Congress unleashed forceful condemnations urging Alabama Senate nominee Roy Moore to abandon his bid. But with no sign that he will heed their calls, GOP leaders and rank-and-file members were less clear Monday night on what should be done next if Moore is elected next month.
Multiple scenarios -- from expulsion to write-in candidacies to holding hearings -- were brought up in the halls of Congress.
And Republicans weren't shy in expressing their frustration.

GOP senator: We must protect the Senate's integrity if Moore doesn't step aside
Olivia Beavers (The Hill, 13/11/2017)

Republican Sen. Todd Young (Ind.) on Monday called on his colleagues to "protect the integrity" of the upper chamber if GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore does not step aside after multiple allegations that he had sexual encounters with underage women while in his 30s.
The Hoosier lawmaker said in a two-part tweet that Moore's denials are less convincing than the allegations of five women who say he made sexual advances towards them when they were minors.
Young's tweets come on the same day that a fifth woman, Beverly Young Nelson, came forward and publicly accused Moore of sexual misconduct during a press conference with lawyer Gloria Allred.
