Harvey Weinstein fired from film studio he co-founded after recent harassment allegations

Movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has been terminated from his position at the Weinstein Co., according to a statement from the board of directors on Sunday.
The move to oust Weinstein came just days after the high-powered Hollywood film producer was thrust into the spotlight after the New York Times published a report Thursday that revealed decades of sexual harassment claims by actresses and female employees against him.
In response to the Times’ story, Weinstein announced in a statement Thursday that he would be taking a leave of absence from his company. Then on Saturday, Lisa Bloom, who had been serving as an adviser to Weinstein — and who had told the Times that Weinstein “denies many of the accusations as patently false” — tweeted that she would be stepping down from that position. “My understanding is that Mr. Weinstein and his board are moving toward an agreement,” she said.

Harvey Weinstein has been fired from the Weinstein Company after new information emerged regarding his conduct, the company’s board of directors has said.
Weinstein was on a voluntarily leave of absence after a slew of sexual harassment allegations emerged last week in a New York Times exposé. The board on Friday endorsed that decision at the time but went further on Sunday, removing Weinstein from the company he co-founded.
The board’s statement read in full: “In light of new information about misconduct by Harvey Weinstein that has emerged in the past few days, the directors of the Weinstein Company – Robert Weinstein, Lance Maerov, Richard Koenigsberg and Tarak Ben Ammar – have determined, and have informed Harvey Weinstein, that his employment with the Weinstein Company is terminated, effective immediately,”

Two decades ago, the Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein invited Ashley Judd to the Peninsula Beverly Hills hotel for what the young actress expected to be a business breakfast meeting. Instead, he had her sent up to his room, where he appeared in a bathrobe and asked if he could give her a massage or she could watch him shower, she recalled in an interview.
“How do I get out of the room as fast as possible without alienating Harvey Weinstein?” Ms. Judd said she remembers thinking.
In 2014, Mr. Weinstein invited Emily Nestor, who had worked just one day as a temporary employee, to the same hotel and made another offer: If she accepted his sexual advances, he would boost her career, according to accounts she provided to colleagues who sent them to Weinstein Company executives. The following year, once again at the Peninsula, a female assistant said Mr. Weinstein badgered her into giving him a massage while he was naked, leaving her “crying and very distraught,” wrote a colleague, Lauren O’Connor, in a searing memo asserting sexual harassment and other misconduct by their boss.
