SYDNEY (AP) — Eight dead children and a woman suffering from stab wounds were found inside a home in a northern Australian city on Friday, police said.
Queensland state police said they were called to the home in the Cairns suburb of Manoora on Friday morning after receiving a report of a woman with serious injuries.

Queensland Police said they were called to the house in the quiet suburb of Manoora on Friday morning after receiving a report of a woman with serious injuries.
When officers arrived, they found the bodies of the children inside and the injured mother, who is now in a stable condition in hospital.
Police said there are no formal suspects at this stage and attempted to reassure the community that there is no wider threat.
The tragedy comes as Australia continues to mourn the victims of a deadly siege in a Sydney cafe earlier this week.

Detective Inspector Bruno Asnicar said it was too early to say what had happened in the house, and would not comment on eyewitness reports that a man had been seen standing on in the front yard of the house earlier that day.
Addressing the media at the scene at 1.30pm local time, Asnicar said forensic officers were examining the Murray Street house, an operation he said which could take “several days”.
He himself has not yet been inside, but has been briefed on the number of victims.
“I can tell you that at this stage I believe there’s eight. As I told you at this stage the scene is locked down, that could go up or down,” he said.
Aniscar said police who first responded to the incident were distressed but acted professionally.
