Self-employed workers have suffered a severe drop in income since 2008, according to an independent study that shows people working for themselves have fared worse than those in full-time employment.Incomes have been declining for middle and lower earners among the self-employed since the turn of the century and are now down nearly a third over the 12 years, with the situation worsening since the financial crash.
At the same time there has been a significant rise in the number of people registering as self-employed, according to the report.
