Newtown school shooting investigation ends with motive still unknown

Authorities concluded that gunman Adam Lanza acted alone when he shot and killed 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary school last December, but his motive remains a mystery.
"Why did the shooter murder twenty-seven people, including twenty children?" Danbury, Conn. State's Attorney Stephen Sedensky wrote in a 48-page summary of an 11-month state police investigation released Monday. "Unfortunately, that question may never be answered conclusively, despite the collection of extensive background information on the shooter through a multitude of interviews and other sources."
Lanza shot and killed his mother before the rampage at the school.
