Labour claim 'emphatic' victory in two by-elections

There were swings towards Labour today as the party held its two seats in the parliamentary by-elections, in what one MP has called a "major rejection" for the ruling parties.
Stephen Doughty claimed Cardiff South and Penarth, winning 9,193 votes, while Lucy Powell won in Manchester Central with 11,507 votes.
Both results were expected, as parties await the result of the highly-contested Corby seat following the departure of Conservative Louise Mensch.
