Horsemeat scandal: prosecutions possible over burger contamination, warns Government

Criminal prosecutions could follow an investigation into the horsemeat contamination of burgers sold by Tesco and other supermarkets, a Government minister said today.
Environment minister David Heath was responding in the Commons to the discovery of the meat in budget beefburgers.
Answering an urgent question from Labour's shadow environment secretary Mary Creagh, he said: "It is very important neither you, nor anyone else, talks down the British food industry at a time when the standards in that industry are of a very high level.
