Householders who attack burglars will today be promised stronger legal protection by Chris Grayling, the new Justice Secretary.He will also set out plans for tougher community sentences following criticism that some amount to little more than a slap on the wrist.
The move to strengthen the law of self-defence comes after a couple were arrested last month for shooting an intruder who broke into their isolated cottage in Leicestershire.
