Julia Kollewe
"The City was caught on the hop today with data showing higher-than-expected inflation last month.
"Consumer prices rose at an annual rate of 1.8% last month, the same pace as in June, defying analysts' forecasts of a fall to 1.5%.
"Retail price inflation, a broader measure that includes mortgage costs, is already in negative territory but fell at a slower pace of 1.4%, compared with a 1.6% fall in June, government figures showed this morning."
