Government cuts health and safety red tape to stop charity shops closing

"Thousands of charity shops feared they would have to shut because they could not afford costly consultants' fees to ensure they comply with health and safety rules.

"But Chris Grayling, the Employment Minister, will today tell voluntary organisations that they are not required to obtain independent audits and should not be bogged down in red tape.

"Their only responsibility will be to implement common sense measures to prevent shop assistants and customers getting hurt."
