'Budget for growth’ claim is questioned by analysts

"David Cameron and George Osborne billed this week's Budget as the most pro-growth for a generation. But analysis cast doubt on that claim.

"The Office for Budget Responsibility has delivered a less than ringing endorsement for the measures. In the OBR's economic and fiscal outlook, it concluded: Some measures could affect growth. However, there remains significant uncertainty around the size of its effects. We judge that there is insufficient evidence at this stage to adjust our trend growth assumptions.

"Mr Osborne said he had delivered a budget for growth but yesterday faced questions about why the OBR was not confident his new measures would boost the economy beyond the forecasts they had already made."
