"David Shrigley is a multidisciplinary artist who started his career in the early nineties self-publishing art books containing cartoon-like drawings for which he is mainly famous. Their trademarks, which are also recognizable in his varied artistic productions – clumsy execution, sloppy handwriting, disturbing or puzzling text, dark humour and uncanny atmosphere – helped Shrigley to gradually shape a clearly distinctive personality in his work which brought him out as one of the current key figures of British contemporary art scene."

Catherine Millet, author of bestsellers The Sexual Life of Catherine M and Jealousy and editor-in-chief of Art Press magazine, will join Robert Storr, former curator of MoMA and the dean of the School of Art at Yale University, to discuss their wide-ranging interests, their intermingled careers, and the current art scene.

Cette communication, après avoir fait un tour d'horizon du paysage théâtral anglais contemporain, entreprendra de montrer comment la scène anglaise contemporaine oscille entre un théâtre de la violence frontale et un théâtre qui, en creux du In-Yer-Face initié par Sarah Kane, spectralise les corps et ne laisse plus entendre que la voix. Quel que soit le parti-pris choisi, une des tendances résolument nouvelles de ce théâtre tient à ce qu'il réhabilite l'affect, et propose le choc empathique là où les avant-gardes dépathétisaient et proposaient la distance.

Le propos de cette communication est de montrer comment les échos intertextuels modernistes sont des éléments structurants essentiels dans l’écriture de The Light of Day, qui permettent à Graham Swift de faire entendre sa propre voix, spécifiquement contemporaine.
