C. Cottenet teaches American history and literature at Aix-Marseille Université in Aix-en-Provence. She is a scholar in African American studies and Book History (19th and 20th centuries), and wrote her doctoral dissertation (2003) on the publication histories of Charles W. Chesnutt and Jean Toomer. She is the author of several articles on Charles W. Chesnutt, Bret Harte and The Overland Monthly, publisher Horace B. Liveright, and African-American pulp fiction series.
