Focusing specifically on architecture and hospitality, Klaus Benesch examines the importance of building in American history and outlines the central argument of his next book, Architecture and the Construction of Ideas, which explores the use of architecture by thinkers and philosophers of modernity as a metaphor for their critique of society and capitalism.

What can computers tell us about Shakespeare? par Gabriel Egan, publié le 31/05/2018: Gabriel Egan, spécialiste de stylométrie, explique dans cette séance du séminaire Modernités Britanniques (organisée avec le soutien de l'IHRIM - CNRS UMR 5317, COMOD et le département des Langues de l'ENS de Lyon) comment l’analyse computationnelle et la comparaison des premières éditions peuvent éclairer l’attribution des premières pièces de Shakespeare et mettre en évidence les collaborations entre auteurs.

Charulata (la femme solitaire) : Tagore / Ray par Giovanni Robbiano, publié le 16/09/2014: Charulata (1964) est également connu sous son titre anglais : The Lonely Wife (La femme solitaire). Ce film est une adaptation du roman Nastanirh (Le nid brisé) de Rabindranath Tagore, publié en 1901. Les acteurs principaux sont Madhabi Mukherjee, Sailen Mukjerjee et Soumitra Chatterjee dans les rôles principaux de Chârulatâ, son mari Bhupati et son cousin Amal. Comme la plupart des films de Ray, ce film est en noir et blanc et dure 117 minutes. Il en a également composé la musique. Il a été produit par R. D. Banshai, et le directeur de la photo était Subrata Mitra. Celui-ci a fait la photo de la plupart des films de Ray et en particulier de ses premiers chefs-d'œuvre : la Trilogie d'Apu : Pather Panchali (La complainte du sentier, 1955), Apu Sansar (Le monde d’Apu, 1959) et Aparajito (L’Invaincu, 1956).

After giving some precious advice to students in stylistics and explaining the "foregrounding theory", he analysed a number of texts including the front page of a British tabloid, a poem by Robert Frost and a passage from Colum McCann’s Let the Great World Spin.

La narration est profondément enracinée dans l'esprit humain, à un niveau à la fois conscient et inconscient. Produire une narration est une façon de donner du sens à l'expérience factuelle. Mais les fictions créées par le cerveau humain et celles que les romanciers imaginent sont-elles de même nature ? L'écrivain américain Siri Hustvedt et le neurobiologiste français Lionel Naccache exprimeront leurs points de vue originaux, pénétrants et empathiques sur cette question. We all spend our time constructing fictions, telling stories to ourselves and to others. Narration is deeply rooted in the human mind, at a conscious and unconscious level. Producing a narrative is a way of giving meaning to factual experience. Are the fictions created by the human brain and those imagined by novelists of the same nature? American writer Siri Hustvedt and French neurobiologist Lionel Naccache express their original, incisive and empathetic views on these questions.

Intertextualité et interculturalité par Redouane Abouddahab, publié le 09/10/2009: La parodie des Mille et une nuits par Poe dans « The Thousand-And-Second Tale Of Scheherazade » est bien plus qu’un exercice littéraire ludique comme on l’a souvent souligné. Cette parodie a été écrite pendant la grande période de développement du nationalisme américain dans un contexte particulièrement marqué par le populisme. C’est pendant cette période que la volonté d’avoir une littérature et une langue « purement américaines » commencent à s’imposer. Triomphe aussi de l’idéologie puritaine bien implantée, qui assujettit les nouveaux arrivants à sa propre vision et à ses propres mythes fondateurs.
