Stepfather strangles nine-year-old after taking her for 'a treat'

"A lorry driver strangled his nine-year-old stepdaughter and left her body in the cab of his truck before hanging himself, police said yesterday.
"Detectives investigating the murder and suicide are said to be puzzled by what motivated the killer.
"The man, 40, had been in a long-term relationship with the child's mother and is said to have been a caring stepfather who was close to the girl.
"The child's mother has told police that she had no concerns about him taking her daughter on the overnight lorry trip, which the child had regarded as a treat."
